Bass clarinetist Frans Moussault plays Music from Silence
This beautiful concert in the series ‘Elsrijk Chamber Music Concerts’ is at the interface between contemporary classical music and classical Japanese music. The music that is played is mainly written by Frans Moussault himself. Solo playing by the bass clarinet is alternated with a duo together with the alto flute played by Yukari Nanami.

Japanese culture has inspired Western art for over a hundred and fifty years. In the so-called Western ‘minimal music’ the Eastern desire for simplicity and peace unmistakably resounds. Frans Moussault is inspired by Zen elements from Japanese art. His compositions for bass clarinet breathe the atmosphere of Japanese poems and pen drawings. In the Japanese-Buddhist Zen culture, emptiness and silence are an important source of inspiration. The beautiful tones of Frans Moussaults bass clarinet let that source of stillness resound in an almost magical way.
