Black Art Jazz Collective
The Black Art Jazz Collective was co-founded by trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, drummer Johnathan Blake and saxophonist Wayne Escoffery; American jazz musicians who currently belong to the worldwide jazz top. The band members celebrate jazz as an original American art form. In their own compositions, they honour icons from African-American culture, including WEB Dubois, Sojourner Truth and Barack Obama.
Black Art Jazz Collective
10th anniversary
The band would have performed at the Bimhuis in July 2022, if some pandemic had not thrown a spanner in the works. Fortunately, they are now really coming to the venue with a new line-up and new album in honour of their 10th anniversary. The band consists of Josh Evans on trumpet, Wayne Escoffery on tenor sax, James Burton III on trombone, Danny Grissett on piano, Jasen Weaver on bass and Mark Whitfield Jr. on drums.
