Joel Frahm trio
Joel Frahm is seen in the jazz world as an icon of the tenor saxophone, a virtuoso with his heart on his sleeve. As star pianist Brad Mehldau, his childhood friend, says, "He hits a song at its core, right from the first note." Joel and his trio follow in the footsteps of the legendary sax trios of Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson and Steve Grossman: a candid, agile style that sounds current again thanks to Joel Frahm and co.

The Bright Side
Nowadays, he lives in the music city of Nashville, but in the 30 years before that, Joel Frahm made his mark in the jazz clubs of New York. He accompanied Betty Carter, Kenny Barron and Freddy Cole, among others. He made the duo album Don't Explain with Brad Mehldau. He previously played in Omer Avital's bands on the Bimhuis stage. His current trio with bassist Dan Loomis and drummer Ernesto Cervini was formed in Toronto. Their new album, the successor to the critically acclaimed The Bright Side, will be released this fall.
