Improvisation in classical music
Frerichs points out that composers used to leave a lot of room for their own input. As a result, the performing musicians could (or had to!) make creative decisions themselves. This trend has been abandoned, especially since the nineteenth century. Only then did the strict approach to the written score become the starting point for preserving and perfecting classical music.
With De Staalmeesters, Frerichs has gathered a changing group of international musicians around him. Together they breathe new life into the lost spontaneous performance practice, in which the musicians must constantly pay attention to each other and respond to each other.
Among other things, music will be performed by Jewish composers such as Erwin Schulhoff and Erich Wolfgang Korngold.
