Cappella Pratensis & Sollazzo Ensemble
Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht presents in De Waalse Kerk: Cappella Pratensis & Sollazzo Ensemble. We already knew that the people of Brabant are true Burgundians. But that 's-Hertogenbosch was once the epicentre of the Low Countries' musical practice and gastronomy is less well known. The city in the South of the Netherlands with its abundance of churches and monasteries ('little Rome') had a magnificent choir and a delicacy to match: the swan, the showpiece of the annual banquet of the Illustrious Brotherhood of Our Lady. With the Sollazzo Ensemble as the music chapel, Cappella Pratensis invites the audience for a tasty return trip to the Renaissance.
Cappella Pratensis & Sollazzo Ensemble
Chapel of Pratensis
Cappella Pratensis is a vocal ensemble led by conductor Stratton Bull specializing in polyphonic masterpieces by Josquin Desprez and others. The singers gather around a central music stand and sing from a single choir book. In 2022, the ensemble won the REMA-EEMN Heritage Project of the Year Award for their CD Apostola apostolorum . Capella Pratensis makes it a priority to transfer knowledge to both professionals and amateurs through masterclasses and workshops, and it trains young singers within the ensemble itself.
Sollazzo Ensemble
The Basel-based Sollazzo Ensemble was founded in 2014 and within a year had already won several awards at the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition. Led by fiddler Anna Danilevskaia, the ensemble focuses on medieval repertoire, although its musicians have a variety of musical backgrounds – from early music to contemporary music and even musicals.
