Beethoven's Symphony No. 7
Joana Mallwitz leads the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Beethoven's Seventh Symphony: undoubtedly one of his most beautiful and compelling symphonies. The premiere in 1813 was one of the greatest successes of Beethoven's life. The Allegretto part immediately took on a life of its own and still appears separately in films and TV series. Indeed, Beethoven is everywhere, and we can't get enough of it. Because of its obsessive, timeless energy, Beethoven's Seventh remains always modern. To Richard Wagner, the finale was 'the apotheosis of dance', while conductor Iván Fischer called it 'rock music of the nineteenth century'. Experience it yourself at Essentials!
