Faiz Ali Faiz is currently the great voice of the qawwali, the age-old transcendental musical expression of Sufism. He descends from a family of cantors, or qawwals, that goes back generations. Faiz excels because of his great range and rich timbre, which is why he is often compared to his legendary role model Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Faiz was born in Pakistan. He followed the most prestigious education in this field and became a professional singer in 1978, the year in which he also founded his own qawwali ensemble. With his supple voice he often deliberately causes a stir within the prescribed musical ritual, giving his audience a unique, captivating experience.
