The Passion of Shishani Pynarello + Shishani
Music by two groundbreaking artists in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ: Florence Price and Shishani. While the whole of the Netherlands is captivated by Bach's 'Matthäus Passion' during Easter, Pynarello brings a contemporary passion together with the versatile singer-songwriter, anthropologist, musicologist and activist Shishani. In this unique musical encounter, the sounds of Florence Price (1887 – 1953) and Shishani (1988) merge.

Florence Price
Price, the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer, had to fight against racism and unequal opportunities. Her impressive oeuvre of more than 300 compositions was rediscovered in 2009 in an abandoned vacation home.
Shishani Pynarello + Shishani
In this concert, her work sounds in dialogue with Shishani, a committed artist with roots in Namibia, Belgium and the Netherlands, known for his hit 'Minority'. Rebel club Pynarello brings this encounter to life in a compact line-up, where vocals, percussion and classical strings create an exciting tension between the rhythmic, soul, pop and African music-inspired sound world of Shishani and the romantic, compelling compositions of Price.
