The Rest is Noise presents its first collaboration with Space is the Place. This Amsterdam-based organisation has been organising groundbreaking concerts with a focus on jazz and improvised music since 2015. This spring concert at Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, features three adventurous acts. The cello duo Sanem Kalfa and Lucija Gregov engage in a dialogue, Sakina Abdou performs a virtuoso saxophone solo and Tuareg guitarist and singer Ahmed Ag Kaedy presents the project Tidawt together with Australian drummer Will Guthrie.

Lucija Gregov & Sanem Kalfa

Lucija Gregov and Sanem Kalfa are masters of the cello and enter into a delicate, surprising chamber music dialogue. Their playful and experimental way of playing complements each other perfectly, creating an emotional and compelling whole. While Sanem plays her cello, her enchanting voice adds an extra layer. Lucija complements the notes with wonderful manipulations on the same instrument.

Sakina Abdou

In Sakina Abdou’s saxophone solo, the notes seem to dance and dart through the air. The French-Nigerian saxophonist and composer is known for her daring approach to contemporary and improvised music. Her 2022 solo album Goodbye Ground and other collaborative projects combine musical sophistication with subtle intensity.

Ahmed Ag Kaedy & Will Guthrie

Tuareg musician Ahmed Ag Kaedy and Australian drummer Will Guthrie will release Tidawt in February, their first tape together, recorded in Umeå last year. Ag Kaedy’s hushed guitar tones and vocals and Guthrie’s groundbreaking drumming come together naturally here.
