Het Sweelinck Barok Orkest - Henry Purcell

The Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra presents two highlights from the world-famous oeuvre of Henry Purcell, one of the most important English composers of the 17th century. The orchestra opens with a suite from the opera King Arthur, after which the singers from Xenia Meijer's class join the orchestra to provide a dazzling performance of the Ode to St. Cecilia's Day.

The Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra

The Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra is the historical instrument orchestra of the Early Music department of the Conservatory of Amsterdam, founded by Lucy van Dael and Alfredo Bernardini. Every Friday morning, the orchestra rehearses in the Sweelinck Hall of the Conservatory of Amsterdam under the direction of various teachers from the department.

Lunch concerts

Every third Friday there is a lunch concert, after which the program changes. Furthermore, every year the orchestra undertakes projects with internationally renowned guest conductors such as (in the recent past): Guy Van Waas, Patrick Ayrton, Lambert Colson, Peter Van Heyghen, Antoinette Lohman and Emmanuel Resche-Caserta. Concerts are given at various locations in Amsterdam , Utrecht, The Hague and Leiden. The Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra covers a broad repertoire ranging from Renaissance (Monteverdi) to Baroque (Bach, Rameau) through Classical (Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven) to Romantic style (Brahms, Schumann). The world of Early Music is expanding, and so is the Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra.
