Jane's Addiction

The alternative rock band Jane's Addiction will give a concert in the Main Hall of Paradiso in Amsterdam on Monday, July 1, 2024. It is the first club show of the influential American foursome on Dutch soil in more than 20 years; the band last gave a concert in Paradiso in 2003. PLEASE NOTE: Due to an unforeseen illness within the band, Jane’s Addiction are regrettably unable to perform for you tonight in Amsterdam. This decision was not taken lightly and cancelling a show is always the very last option and we are truly devastated. We will do our very best to make it up to you all. Jane's Addiction was founded in 1985 by singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Eric Avery. The band emerged from the underground music scene of Los Angeles at the time and mixed influences from punk rock, metal, psychedelic rock, and funk. The foursome released the live album 'Jane's Addiction' in 1987, followed by four studio albums.

Alternative rock

Jane's Addiction is seen as one of the main drivers of the worldwide breakthrough of alternative rock to the general public in the late 1980s and early 1990s. For example, the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins said: 'I think it's fair to say that any band under the alternative rock banner or whatever owes a lot to Jane's Addiction. They unlocked the door that Nirvana and Pearl Jam, and everyone else kicked down'.

The four-piece formation has split up and reunited a number of times between then and now, with varying lineups. The group's initial farewell tour in 1991, Lollapalooza, has grown over the years into a major, annual alternative rock festival in the United States. With the return of founder Eric Avery on bass in 2022, Jane's Addiction is back to its original line-up. In addition to the Paradiso concert, a Pinkpop performance has also been confirmed.
