Joan As Police Woman
Since 2006, Joan Wasser has been releasing music under her alter ego Joan As Police Woman. However, her musical career began more than fifteen years earlier as a violinist with The Dambuilders and by playing in bands such as Black Beetle, Antony and the Johnsons, and Those Bastard Souls. Joan As Police Woman began writing and singing in the band Black Beetle, which was formed after the death of her ex-fiancé Jeff Buckley, in collaboration with Buckley's bandmates. The end of Black Beetle in 2002 marked the beginning of Wasser's new band, Joan As Police Woman, with the name a reference to the TV series Police Woman.

Vulnerability and refinement
Joan has released no less than 8 studio albums and has built up an impressive resume with collaborations with artists such as Lou Reed, John Cale and Rufus Wainwright. Her music is characterized by combining classic soul and experimental influences with vulnerability and refinement. This year we can expect more of that on her new upcoming album.
