Chamame

Chamamé is the authentic folk music of Argentina that has also spread to neighboring countries such as Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. This style of music enjoys great popularity, especially in the north of Argentina. In 2021, the genre was even recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 'Chamamé has always been a vibrant and passionate music form, rooted in the rich traditions and culture of Argentina. With this project, Kamerata Zuid wants to breathe a breath of fresh air into this traditional style. By adding new elements and influences from classical music, Chamamé Sinfónico Nuevo will add a whole new dimension to this beloved art form.

Frank Adams has been working with Argentinian orchestras since 2012. In 2015 he came into contact with Nino Zannoni, a singer born in the Jordaan whose career mainly focuses on the musical world of Chamamé. Adams and Zannoni jointly devised the Chamamé Sinfónico project, which brought together traditional music with the sounds of a classical orchestra. In 2022, part of the orchestra traveled to Argentina to perform this project. They collaborated with Argentinian musicians to get to know the specific genre better.

During this concert new compositions by Xavier van de Poll Pablo Bentos and Santiago Cimadevilla will be performed.
