International jazz talent is flourishing in the Netherlands
In this concert you will see progressive young masters from all over the world who have settled here, in the close-knit trio Mn3mosyne and in the adventurous quintet of vocalist Līva Dumpe. Ilia Rayskin, the much sought-after drummer who collaborated with Tineke Postma and Jesse van Ruller, plays in both formations.
Goddess of memory
In Greek mythology, Mnemosyne is the goddess of memory. The young trio Mn3mosyne recalls a great past on the one hand and looks ahead on the other. Material by atonal composers such as Sofia Gubaidulina, Witold Lutosławski and Morton Feldman is reimagined, with room for improvisation. By using electronics, surprising links are created with, for example, J. Cole, Squarepusher and James Blake. Drummer Ilia Rayskin was responsible for the new compositions.
Between chamber music and dynamic grooves
Strong melodies, emotional stories and challenging improvisations meet in Līva Dumpe's ensemble. The connecting factor is her voice and her role as narrator. The vocalist and pianist from Latvia emphasizes the mystical, ritual power of music. On the one hand, her compositions touch on chamber music and on the other hand they can develop into dynamic grooves, in which there is plenty of experimentation. The concert looks ahead to the new album Tālskatis, which will be released in June.
