Musical souls
Among the igniting and extinguishing stars in the jazz universe, there are also plenty of habitable planets floating around. The planet Misha Mengelberg is such a refuge, a meeting place for musical souls. They are attracted by the absurdist humour and enlightening melodies of the influential composer, who continues to create unlikely connections in improvised music after his death in 2017.
Swinging chaos
Both familiar and new faces appear in this new band, which pays tribute to Mengelberg. Benjamin Herman, Ernst Glerum and Tobias Delius worked directly with him. The younger players in the band feel Mengelberg's influence because they are active in Dutch jazz and improvisation music, on which he has left an unmistakable mark. They bring their own backgrounds with them: Young-Woo Lee and Sun Mi-Hong both come from Korea and Alistair Payne from Scotland. As for the repertoire: expect swinging chaos and jumping hares!
