Aylen Pritchin, Nicolas Altstaedt and Maxim Emelyanychev

When it comes to Aylen Pritchin, many superlatives are used: 'the future of the violin' and a 'luminous sound'. Pritchin is in good company tonight when it comes to musical fire and passion: cellist Nicolas Altstaedt and pianist Maxim Emelyanychev have also thrilling play elevated to the highest art.

Schumann

'Almost every motif in my head,' Schumann wrote, 'lends itself to counterpoint. I have not the slightest intention of composing such themes, it just happens.' Schumann's piano trios are also full of fugues and canons. His Second , Op. 80 , Schumann wrote in 1847, a productive year, despite shocking events such as the sad death of his son Emil and the sudden death of Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn. The Phantasiestücke , op. 88, Schumann's first contribution to the genre, were only published after several revisions released in 1850.
