Nieuw Bach Ensemble: Johannes Passie
Every year, Bach's St. John Passion is on the agenda of the Nieuw Bach Ensemble. In order to perform this great music with the same instruments that Bach himself used, the Nieuw Bach Ensemble will once again collaborate with the baroque ensemble Collegium Delft in 2025.

In this way, we come close to the source, while retaining what has always made the performances so special: the tension in the story, with an eye for detail, and the striking dual role of the choir: as 'people' in the Bible story and as interpreter of the impressive chorales. The unique Monteverdi organ will also be used again in the performances. This organ was built – on the initiative of Krijn Koetsveld and supported by the National Musical Instruments Fund – by the Klop company in Garderen, based on a design by the Italian harpsichordist Michele Barchi. He also designed the sublime baroque paintings of the organ case. The instrument is a fantastic eye-catcher, and is also notable for its lovely and at the same time expressive sound, thanks to the construction and dimensions of the pipes, which are made of Italian cypress wood.
