Ravel 150 with Julien Libeer
In 2025 it will be one hundred and fifty years since Maurice Ravel was born. The brilliant Belgian pianist Julien Libeer honors Ravel with an intelligent program, in which three pieces by Ravel himself are given relief by piano work by three other composers. Libeer made an impression in the Muziekgebouw a few years ago when he performed the Bach tribute The Well-Tempered Songbook with Cappella Amsterdam: 'Downright sensational', according to Klassik Heute.

Ravel's beautiful piano oeuvre in perspective
Honesty and creativity are core values for Libeer, who is also a fan of the Grote Zaal of the Muziekgebouw. His interpretations are always sublime and tasteful. In addition to the most beautiful piano music by Ravel, Libeer will play music by baroque composer Louis Couperin and the American George Gershwin tonight – French baroque and jazz were important influences on Ravel. George Crumb, composer of an idiosyncratic and hauntingly beautiful oeuvre, could be called one of Ravel's 20th-century heirs.
