Sanne Rambags: The Frieze of Life
Text and poetry
Singer Sanne Rambags uses her voice as an instrument, sometimes through text and poetry, but often also as pure sound. For her new album she was inspired by Edvard Munch, who created an iconic painting with The Scream . Around 1902 the Norwegian artist selected a number of his works based on different phases of his life. He called this series The Frieze of Life . Based on this, Sanne Rambags wrote a suite of the same name consisting of 9 compositions.
The Frieze of Life includes titles such as Madonna, The Dance of Life and The Scream, taken from some of Munch's best-known works. The suite premiered at the November Music festival and was released as an album last fall. Sanne Rambags brings the haunting work back to life with violinist Roosmarijn Tuenter, pianist Jeroen van Vliet and drummer Joost Lijbaart.
