Vijay Iyer Trio
American innovator of the proven instrumentation of the piano trio. Vijay Iyer is back at the BIMpodium for a new look at his oeuvre for piano trio. The American pianist is an excellent example for the current jazz generation because of his originality. In his recent album Compassion on ECM Records, he adds new colours to the piano, double bass, and drums palette. The album contains interpretations of work by Mary Lou Williams, Roscoe Mitchell and Stevie Wonder, in addition to own compositions inspired by poet Eve L. Ewing and freedom fighter Desmond Tutu, among others.

Vijay Iyer
Anyone who has looked at American music for the past decade cannot ignore Vijay Iyer. He often finished at the top of the prestigious Downbeat Critics Poll in the Jazz Artist of the Year category. But the description of 'jazz' is too limited. His musical language is equally grounded in South Asian and West African traditions. He has composed for many contemporary classical soloists and ensembles, such as Bang on a Can All-Stars, Silk Road Ensemble and The Los Angeles Philharmonic. “Extraordinary...Reaffirming His Status As One Of The Most Creative Figures In Improvised Music” (Boston Globe)
