Denis Kozhukhin returns to the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra
Denis Kozhukhin had his international breakthrough in 2010 when he won first prize at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. As a successful concert pianist and chamber musician, the Russian pianist is showered with rave reviews. According to NRC, he is 'insanely refined, raw where necessary'. About an earlier performance with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Parool wrote: 'Kozhukhin proves that there is life in classical music'. At the time, he played Grieg; this time, he is the soloist in Chopin's poetic Second Piano Concerto.
Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony
'Shouldn't a symphony express everything for which there are no words, but what flows from the soul and cries out to be expressed?' says Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky about the intentions of his Fourth Symphony. He wrote an epic work about the vagaries of fate, melancholy, a drunken stupor and, ultimately, the joy of life. The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra plays Tchaikovsky's masterpiece under the direction of the promising Finnish conductor Emilia Hoving.
