Ton Koopman 80 years
Ton Koopman celebrates his 80th birthday in the Concertgebouw. The Dutch Baroque pride, an inspiring personality in the early music movement, will perform Handel's oratorio Esther with his Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir plus a series of wonderful singers. The scientist Koopman tirelessly immerses himself in music and enters the world stage as a conductor, organist and harpsichordist. A hearty congratulations to you, Ton Koopman!
Handel's Esther
Sometimes a composer's work is so famous that it overshadows all his other works in the same genre. Handel's oratorio Esther, his first in the English language, deserves attention because many aspects of the Messiah are already present here. Handel knows how to convincingly render in sound the Old Testament story on which Jean Racine built his play. Listen to this colorful Handel and judge for yourself.
