Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4
Tchaikovsky's impressive Fourth Symphony provides an insight into the composer's life, which was not always a bed of roses. A life of alcohol, unsuccessful love and rejection. But also a life of musical successes and deep friendships. You can expect high peaks and deep valleys in this symphony, in which Tchaikovsky expresses the power of fate and delivers a beautiful, bittersweet ode to his youth.
Anna Fedorova plays Ravel
In the swinging Piano Concerto in G, Ravel combined the Spanish music of his youth with the jazz that had completely captivated him during a tour through the United States. The concerto starts with a whip-crack, showing Ravel's burst of energy. The second part is very different: a dreamy, slow, and almost endless melody – first played by the piano alone, then beautifully taken over by the flute in the orchestra – grows into a powerful emotional exchange between the orchestra and soloist. This suits the Ukrainian piano star Anna Fedorova, who can give this classic new energy and depth like no one else.
