Cloud Song: the new album from Undercurrent Trio & Suzan Veneman
Cloud Song, a collaboration between Undercurrent Trio and up-and-coming trumpetist Suzan Veneman, is a highlight in Dutch jazz. The album builds on a rich and storied jazz history with fresh and contemporary compositions. For this trio, composer and bandleader Iman Spaargaren plays tenorsax, clarinet and bass clarinet. He aims for musical freedom and accessibility with his compositions. For years now he has been playing with guitarist Guillermo Celano and drummer Marcos Baggiani as part of Undercurrent Trio. It’s still just as magical”, says the bandleader about the collaboration. Suzan Veneman has renewed the trios performancers, says Iman, with her “flawless play, innovative ideas and mindblowing improvisations”. From melodies that come straight from the heart to cinematic passages and fat grooves; these maestros display an enormous variety of ambiences.
