New band Catharsis is built around up-and-coming guitarist and composer Michiel Stekelenburg. The band's self-titled album reflects his inner turmoil, the search for a balance between vulnerability and strength. 'It's a journey through my soul, a search for a balance between my own inner world and the expectations of the outside world'. Stekelenburg composed a band of seven great players who take their inspiration from jazz, rock and contemporary composed music. Expect fiery, improvised solos and dynamic compositions.
Catharsis is Michiel Stekelenburg's fourth album. For his last album, Onoda, he won second place in the election for leading magazine Gitarist's 'best jazz guitarist in the Benelux'. As a session musician he has worked with great artists such as Marcus Miller, Damien Erskine and Eric Vloeimans.
