Tchaikovsky's String Quartet No. 2

Tchaikovsky himself was fond of his Second String Quartet : 'I consider it my best composition; none of my works flowed so simply and easily from my pen.' The work combines a Schubertian structure with Russian folk elements and pathos. The Weinberg Quartet also brings music by two other Russians: Rachmaninoff's First String Quartet and Stravinsky's Concertino .

Weinberg Quartet

The Weinberg Quartet is one of the best string quartets of Russia. For more than twenty years, the quartet was a welcome guest on stages and festivals all over the world under the name Rusquartet. In the Netherlands, the quartet was 'in residence' at the Orlando Festival from 2016 to 2022.

In 2023, the quartet received permission from the heirs of the Jewish Polish-Russian composer Mieczysław Weinberg to bear his name. Since then, the quartet has played under the name Weinberg Quartet. The three pieces that the quartet brings from their home country are completely in their sound world: from the highly romantic quartets full of pathos by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, to the Concertino by Stravinsky, which fits in with Weinberg's idiom.
