Yogaconcert | poëzie, yin yoga en live muziek met Hashem Kabreet
Live improvised music and a yin yoga class intertwine around mystical poetry for a deep journey inside. The magic of the yoga concerts boards at the Amstel park in the summer. This Friday evening, handpan player Hashem Kabreet will bring his improvisations to the mat, between chattering birds, hopping squirrels, and grumbling aeroplanes. André Meeusen builds his yoga class around a poem.

Oriental mystic at the Amstel river side
When Hashem Kabreet plays percussion, drums start singing melodies – whether he uses his frame drum, darbouka, djembe or cajon. So the handpan was made for him - this hipster of music instruments, invented in 2000. Hashem left Syria when the war started, for a journey that first brought him to Dubai and Lebanon, where he began working for 'Sounds of Change', using the power of music for social change in (post) conflict areas. Five years later, he arrived in the Netherlands, where he continued this work and started performing with the collective Orchestre Partout, initially in asylum camps and community centres, subsequently in conservatories and concert halls such as the Bimhuis. Hashem is a master in creative improvisation, inspiring with his musical zest as the tingling heartbeat of a mystical Song of Yoga, rooted in oriental sufism yet no less than a universal proclamation for joy.
What is a yoga concert?
A concert, poetry performance, and a yin yoga class in one. This is the formula of the yoga concerts. The calm, meditative but intense postures of yin yoga allow to sink deeper into consciousness, beyond the patterns of the mind. On the yogamat, physical sensations weave together with musical improvisations. The mind becomes quieter, opening space to meet the music and poetry in the heart. In this way, the live improvised music, yoga postures, and mystical poetry intertwine, affect, and strengthen each other for a journey inside.
