Alma Quartet, Klaus Mäkelä and Santa Vižine
The Alma Quartet consists of 4 members of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The success of their concerts and recordings makes an important contribution to the discussion about an interesting question: can an orchestral function be combined with top-level chamber music? The Alma Quartet leaves no doubt that this is possible. The altoist Santa Vižine is also a member of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, and if the name of cellist Klaus Mäkelä seems familiar to you: he is the orchestra's conductor designatus.
Schubert's String Quintet
The Adagio from Schubert's 'String Quintet' is the glowing core of one of the greatest works in chamber music literature. With his special instrumentation, which makes beautiful duets of the two cellos possible, Schubert climbs the Parnassus of composing. In addition to the 'String Quintet', Korngold's 'Sextet in D' will also be heard, in which an additional viola can be heard.
