Step into the music scene of vibrant Athens
Athens Collective is a Greek music group consisting of five members, with roots in Athens and the Netherlands. The quintet, consisting of Demis, Bart, Dimitris, Katerina and Christos, brings the warm, authentic melodies from the streets of Athens to the Netherlands. At an Athens Collective concert you immediately imagine yourself in the music scene of vibrant Athens, where the bouzouki (traditional Greek string instrument) is still alive and well today, and you can feel it!
The instrument is therefore central to Athens Collective. The collective has two bouzouki players, Demis and Bart, both born in the Netherlands, but touched by these special sounds from an early age. Demis also sings, together with Katerina, who worked for years as a professional singer in Athens and knows the colorful Athenian nightlife like no other. Christos and Dimitris, both experienced in the Athenian music scene, accompany the company on guitar, piano and vocals. Athens Collective shows how diverse, surprising and alive authentic Greek music still is and lets you feel the Greek sun on your skin for a moment.
The concert in Amsterdam will focus on one of the most important Greek composers and lyricists in recent decades, Stavros Kougioumtzis. Various Greek artists such as Anna Vissi and Giorgos Dalaras owe their glorious careers to the songs of this composer. During the evening we will also talk about Kougioumtzis' life, his sources of inspiration, his doubts and how you can recognize a Kougioumtzis song by the birds in the lyrics.
