Lucas Santana Grand Orquestra: Candomblé
Candomblé is more than a concert; it is an invitation to reflection and dialogue. Saxophonist Lucas Santana wrote the music for the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, taking the African diaspora in South America as his starting point.

Travel through culture and history with Brazilian saxophonist
Stories are given musical form by means of four important pillars: Remember, Reflect, Acknowledge and Celebrate. In this way, the performance creates space for conversations about culture, history and identity, themes that often remain undiscussed. Lucas Figueiredo Santana, a versatile Brazilian saxophonist, clarinetist and flutist, has lived in Amsterdam since 2015. His music combines influences from Brazilian styles such as samba and bossa nova with the expressiveness of jazz. Lucas previously won the Keep an Eye The Records Award. The Candomblé project is made possible by JOC Productions, a new talent programme of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw that offers young musicians the opportunity to realise large-scale productions.
