Beethoven opus 132
Ludwig van Beethoven surprised the world with his revolutionary compositions. He created new musical worlds not only with his symphonies but also with his penetrating and wonderful string quartets. The complex String Quartet in A Minor, op. 132, is one of the six 'late string quartets' that the deaf composer wrote during the last years of his life. With the impressive slow movement 'Heiliger Dankgesang,' Beethoven expressed his gratitude after his miraculous recovery from a serious illness.
Barbican Quartet
Four international musicians, four unique personalities, and one string quartet. The Barbican Quartet is an original voice in the chamber music world. According to an English music critic, they delight the audience with their 'intimate but strong performances and virtuoso interplay'. 'Finely structured and virtuoso balanced', wrote the German press of their interpretation of Beethoven's String Quartet in E minor, op. 59 no. 2, with which the quartet won first prize at the ARD String Quartet Competition in 2022. The Barbican Quartet combines Beethoven's Opus 132 with a string quartet by Schubert and masterful Bach fugues in a version by Mozart.
