Bösendorfer Piano Series: William Youn
They really should not be missing from a piano series: Bach's Goldberg Variations. The monumental work that continues to amaze and move is certainly in safe hands with Korean star pianist William Youn. He has already played the work in a special setting: in collaboration with the Vienna State Ballet. It will undoubtedly have given him new insights, and perhaps the performance in De Waalse Kerk will give the listener that too. NB The end time mentioned is an indication.

About William Youn
William Youn is praised as 'a true poet of the piano'. As one of the finest pianists of our time, he has built an international reputation, especially with his Schubert recordings. His playing is characterized by subtlety, emotional insight and sensitive analysis. The 41-year-old pianist from South Korea has come a long way to realize his dream of becoming a pianist. From kindergarten in Seoul, where he first heard the sound of the piano, via Boston, Hanover and Como to Munich, where he studied with the renowned piano pedagogue Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. He plays in concert halls all over the world, but he has remained a poet: 'What I am concerned with is to transform the notes into something human. That is how I see my profession'. His extensive discography includes acclaimed recordings, including a complete set of Mozart's piano sonatas and a trilogy of Schubert's piano sonatas.
