Annual Gala

The Concertgebouw Orchestra presents its annual festive gala concert. The Annual Gala starts with a reception at 19:30 and ends with an atmospheric afterparty until midnight.

Dress code: black tie.

Janine Jansen

After a reception at 19:30 you are welcome in the Main Hall for a particularly beautiful concert conducted by artistic partner Klaus Mäkelä. Top violinist Janine Jansen will be the soloist in Britten's heartfelt Violin Concerto , the work with which she made her debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra twenty years ago.

The Violin Concerto is introduced by the royal funeral march of Britten's predecessor Purcell. Another well-known British funeral song from long ago announces Schumann's deceptively sunny Second Symphony . Like Britten's music, Schumann's is a dialogue with the past. Klaus Mäkelä: 'A concerto is a journey. Purcell's cathedral-like, almost sacred atmosphere reinforces these facets in Schumann and Britten and puts their music in a different light.'

Afterparty

Afterwards you are welcome to meet the musicians and each other in the foyers of Het Concertgebouw. Various atmospheric afterparties invite you to eat and drink, relax, talk or dance until midnight.
