De Beren Gieren - What Eludes Us
Minimalism bursting with energy: that's how you could describe the music of De Beren Gieren. Whether it is techno or surrealism, the band has clearly inherited a lot from the culture of their home country Belgium.
De Beren Gieren - What Eludes Us
Layered improvisations
These three jazz musicians are making a name for themselves in Europe with their layered improvisations in which acoustic instruments and electronic effects flow into each other. They also show kinship with musical visionaries such as Visible Cloaks, Radiohead and Jon Hassell. With treacherous rhythms, clear melodies, and uninhibited electronics, De Beren Gieren captivate the listener on their 7th album, 'What Eludes Us'. As always, pianist Fulco Ottervanger composed most of the songs, which cannot usually be captured in a genre and in which a sing-along melody is often the guiding principle. Cinematic, kaleidoscopic music that serves as a basis for daring live interactions with bassist Lieven Van Pée and drummer Simon Segers.
