Teis Semey Quintet
Raw, extroverted jazz band
Teis Semey puts jazz under high tension with his energetic guitar playing. Originating from Denmark, he developed his fierce electric guitar sound in Amsterdam. There he also formed his bond with well-known partners-in-crime from the city.
And now there is the new album En Masse! Here he finds a balance between chaos and tenderness, raw energy and deep concentration. He refers to his Scandinavian background, with titles such as 'A Tender Melody to Help Me Get Through Winter' and 'A Song for My Siblings'. Newest band member Jesse Schilderink on tenor sax is a musical bulldozer.
Together with alto saxophonist José Soares, he gives the band an extrovert appearance. With Sun-Mi Hong on drums and Jort Terwijn on bass, the Teis Semey Quintet creates a sensation with raw energy on stage. Teis Semey returns to his debut album Mean Mean Machine (2021), after forays into choral music on Midnight Mess Vol. 1 (2023) and electro improv on Crudo (2024).
