The Third Stage: Keroncong Anemoia & Traveling Melodies

Keroncong Anemoia explores the intersections of traditional Indonesian keroncong and Western art songs, weaving together themes of nature-labor, love-memory, and war-change. Rooted in keroncong, a musical form that embodies Indonesia’s indigenous cultural history and significant Western influences, soprano Madeline Saputra and pianist Apollon Kalamenios demonstrate how these universal themes transcend boundaries and resonate through both folk and classical traditions. While most of the program is performed in the standard piano-voice combination, the keroncong songs are accompanied by violin and ukulele—two instruments essential to the genre.

In the concert Traveling Melodies, mezzo-soprano Olga van Tongeren and pianist Maria Marecos take the listener on a journey where love comes and goes like the wind: it lures, connects, enriches, causes sadness and disappears in the waves of the sea.
