Jaco Benckhuijsen & Joost Lijbaart: Man in the Wild

Man in the Wild is a live film concert with images of the rugged uninhabited coasts that pianist Jaco Benckhuijsen visited with his foldable sea kayak for his book of the same name. From his small, shaky boat he filmed the immense seas and coastal areas around Iceland and the Aleutian Islands.

Jaco, who trained as a jazz pianist, plays and improvises in the film images together with the renowned percussionist Joost Lijbaart. Unique images of black lava beaches, icebergs and reflective sea are provided with a soundtrack by the 2 musicians with fragments of piano, electronics, surging rhythms and the noise of the wind and surf. Jaco opens the concert with a lecture about the book Man in the Wild (Uitgeverij de Geus). In the book, he describes three solo sea kayaking trips along the Pacific Ocean. In this concert all his passions come together: music, writing, filming and photography.
