For 50 years, the BIMHUIS stage has been a hub in an international network of musicians who value freedom, improvisation and independence. Oscar Jan Hoogland celebrates with 12 international top players who embody the spirit of the BIMHUIS. In various line-ups, they celebrate the typical BIMHUIS sound based on defining names and movements, such as the cross-swinging Misha Mengelberg, Senegalese singing, the Chicago scene, crackling electronics, the South African kwelas of Sean Bergin, free improvisation in addition to challenging composition, the brutal The Ex, sultry Ethiopian melodies, Latin grooves and jazz by masters such as Monk, Ellington and Sun Ra.
About Oscar Jan Hoogland
Oscar Jan Hoogland is a leading figure in the Amsterdam improv scene. As Misha Mengelberg's last student, he has a strong bond with the history associated with 50 years of BIMHUIS. He has assembled a supergroup, especially for this concert, where he plays piano and electric clavichord.
