Get into the Christmas spirit during the festive Christmas concert on Sunday afternoon, December 15 in the atmospheric Westerkerk. Harmonieorkest Groot Excelsior and the Plantagekoor will provide a varied program with mainly classical Christmas music before the break and a light program after the break with popular American Christmas songs. You can sing along with the well-known Christmas songs.

Harmonieorkest Groot Excelsior

Harmonieorkest Groot Excelsior from Amsterdam has been organizing very successful Christmas concerts in the Westerkerk for decades. Every year they work together with a different Amsterdam choir. This can be a pop, gospel or opera choir.

This year the classical Plantagekoor is participating and we are introduced to music by Handel and Monteverdi. The orchestra accompanies the choir in three parts of the Messiah, including the well-known Hallelujah. In addition, the orchestra brings its own program with both classical and popular Christmas music, such as the cheerful Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson and White Christmas by Irving Berlin.

A fixed part of the Christmas concert is singing together with the audience, in which the orchestra accompanies the audience in well-known Christmas carols. The lyrics are in the program booklet.

The concert is attractive to all Amsterdammers, young, old, poor and rich: Stadspashouders have free entrance.
