Kika Sprangers Large Ensemble
Infinity can evoke an overwhelming feeling. A feeling of freedom or fear. Your understanding of infinity grows from childhood along with your view of the world.
Kika Sprangers Large Ensemble
In sound and color
With infinity as the starting point of the music, saxophonist Kika Sprangers wrote a new album for her Large Ensemble: (In)finity. The music is shaped by a light installation by designer Sander Hagelaar. In the interaction between music and light, the musicians and Hagelaar give voice to and visualize the themes of transience, infinity and the human perception of time.
In the current composition of the Large Ensemble, Sprangers is looking even more for the player behind the instrument. Her Large Ensemble contains some of the most outspoken soloists of the Dutch jazz scene who represent the unique and strong sound of the young generation. Kika excels in her compositions for this chamber jazz line-up with the perfect blend of vocals with wind instruments and at the same time gives space for the momentum in which the musicians flourish in improvisations.
