Musical greats
It has been 45 years since he first performed at the BIMHUIS, together with cellist Ernst Reijseger and drummer Michael Vatcher. Michael Moore had only been to Amsterdam for the first time a year earlier. Since then, he has played on our stage regularly every year, in various formations. Well-known names and new acquaintances from the Amsterdam scene are now returning in his new 7-piece ensemble. He is driven by his curiosity in music: by what he does not yet understand, by freedom and by music in which players are aware that everything can change completely at any moment.
Alto saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Michael Moore is internationally renowned for his beautiful tone and rich musical imagination. He grew up in Northern California, studied at the conservatory with Jaki Byard, George Russell, Joe Maneri, Ran Blake and Günther Schuller and spent two years in New York before moving to Amsterdam. He is a fixture on the Amsterdam jazz scene as a composing member of ICP Orchestra and as leader of his own bands. He has collaborated with many greats, including Lee Konitz, Dave Douglas and Fred Hersch.
