Modern English emerged from the post-punk movement of the late '70s and quickly grew into an influential force on the 4AD label. Their debut album 'Mesh & Lace' and follow-up 'After the Snow' defined post-punk with dark, atmospheric compositions, while the iconic 'I Melt With You' reached the top 10 on US rock radio.

The upcoming album '1 2 3 4', produced by Mario McNulty (known for collaborations with David Bowie and Lou Reed), was created remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, consciously opting for a raw sound. Reflecting personal journeys and critiques of leadership, it embodies the spirit of their post-punk days and features punk-inspired tracks, melodic rockers, and a brilliant blend of darkwave and post-punk, including standout closer 'Voices'.
