Simone Lamsma in Korngold's Violin Concerto
Simone Lamsma is one of those violin talents that are few and far between. She was the youngest student ever to be admitted to the Bachelor of Music at the Royal Academy of Music in London. This morning she will be playing Korngold's Violin Concerto . Fleeing the Nazis, Korngold moved from Austria to America, where he became the greatest film composer of Hollywood's 'Golden Age'. After the war he set his sights on the concert hall again, resulting in the lyrical Violin Concerto . This beautiful music could be described as somewhere between Richard Strauss and Hollywood.
Strauss' Rosenkavalier Suite
In the Suite from 'Der Rosenkavalier' Richard Strauss dreams of 18th century Vienna. The suite opens with a passionate night between 2 of the main characters. Then we hear tender love, graceful Viennese waltzes and ecstatic highlights. Strauss composed music with a wink, of the highest level, and with an unexpected depth.
