Spinifex
Dizzying, highly flammable formation releases new album Undrilling the Hole. Spinifex, named after tough Australian grass, sounds at first glance like a mix of avant-jazz, punk, free improvisation. However, beneath the surface, ancient Eastern rhythms are circling. Over the years, various mutations have emerged, including Spinifex Orchestra and Spinifex Maximus. Now the six-piece variant presents the work from the recent album Undrilling the Hole.

The band
Drummer and astrophysicist Philipp Moser rose to fame in the Dutch progressive metal scene. Portuguese-Rotterdam bassist Gonçalo Almeida effortlessly switches between a beautifully rounded sound and raw electric distortion. Guitarist Jasper Stadhouders is a leader in the Amsterdam improvisation underground, including as a member of Cactus Truck. In the front line you will recognize Bart Maris, trumpet maestro from idiosyncratic Flemish formations such as Flat Earth Society and Think of One who also collaborated with Belgian pop heroes such as dEUS and Stromae. With his enchanting playing on tenor sax, John Dikeman is an innovator of free jazz and free impro. The driving force behind Spinifex is saxophonist/clarinetist Tobias Klein, whose compositions are influenced on the one hand by Carnatic music from South India and on the other by typical Western movements.
