Thomas Dunford en Jean Rondeau

The young baroque fanatics Thomas Dunford (lute) and Jean Rondeau (harpsichord) bring the music from the time of the French Sun King to the present, while improvising. A perfect summer concert in Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam: dreamy and free.

Thomas Dunford and Jean Rondeau

Thomas Dunford and Jean Rondeau have often proven how exciting and entertaining the surprising combination of lute and harpsichord sounds. The excellent French lutenist Thomas Dunford, who could be heard in the Recital Hall in June 2023 with recorder player Lucie Horsch, has been called 'the Eric Clapton of the lute'. The virtuoso and idiosyncratic French harpsichordist Jean Rondeau is also an organist, pianist, conductor and composer and he has his own jazz ensemble. In 2022 he made his debut in the Recital Hall with Bach's Goldberg Variations .

Stories without words

The two musician friends share a passion for French baroque music. They tell their story with tinkling string instruments, improvising on music from the time of Sun King Louis XIV. 'Our game goes beyond dialogue. We are not so much about answering each other, we want to invite the listener to join us on an exploration, without asking a question or offering a solution," Rondeau and Dunford say in the foreword to their joint album Barricades .
