El Comité
'New Cuban groove', that's what they call it, Cuban music in 2024 that radiates pleasure and energy. The members of El Comité each have an excellent reputation in both jazz and Cuban music. As a band they cannot be pigeonholed and with their virtuosity they know how to avoid all clichés. On their new album Carrousel we hear influences from Latin jazz and Thelonious Monk in addition to classic melodies and covers by Rosalía and The Weeknd, among others.
El Comité
Music and salsa party
"The name El Comit is actually a joke," drummer Rodney Barreto explained in an interview with the Slagwerkkrant. 'When you talk about 'Comité' in Cuba, you immediately think of a government institution like Comité de Defensa de la Revolución, so we immediately get people laughing in Cuba when we mention our name.' Co-founder Barreto played with Cuban legends such as Omara Portuondo and Chucho Valdés. The other members also have impressive careers full of big names such as Buena Vista Social Club, Irakere, David Murray, Esperanza Spalding and Richard Bona.
After the concert there is Salsa Panorama, a Cuban salsa party in the café with fantastic views, where you can dance until the early hours.
