Cello Biennale: Canticle of the Sun Kristina Blaumane, Johannes Moser, Pieter Wispelwey and Cappella Amsterdam

Please note: this concert is sold out. Composer Sofia Gubaidulina attended a performance of all her works in which the cello plays a leading role during the first Cello Biennale in 2006, celebrating her 75th birthday. Cappella Amsterdam and cellist Pieter Wispelwey made a great impression with the spectacular Canticle of the Sun.

Masterpiece by Gubaidulina and world premiere Wantenaar

The romantic works for cello and choir by Rudi Tas and Anton Arenski were also performed during previous Biennales. Despite her young age, Mathilde Wantenaar is one of the most performed composers in the Netherlands. Choir and cello are not unfamiliar to her, as she studied cello and singing at the conservatory for some time.

This concert will be broadcast live by the NTR on NPO Klassiek
