Extremist Alice Vladlena Sandu

I need police, I need political asylum. Taking a single step to break away from the past and start building a new life is daunting. Yet, to move forward, one must first confront the past, recount it in detail, and share their story with immigration authorities. Performance is language no problem in Bellevue Theatre. Please note: The end time as mentioned is an indication and may vary on the day.

Every refugee undergoes this process

In 2023, approximately 50,000 people—including Alice—applied for asylum in the Netherlands, while EU+ countries received over 1.1 million applications for international protection. By sharing her story with immigration officials in the Schiphol Airport detention center, Alice clings to the hope of finding freedom and a new home.

Alice’s story—a transgender woman and activist who grew up in Russia, where her very identity was met with political repression—is brought to life through the choreography of Dutch actress and transgender woman Donna Demoon.

The performance premiered at the Amsterdam Fringe 2024.
