Amina Figarova Sextet

Amina Figarova's music sounds expansive and orchestral, even when she composes for small ensembles such as her sextet. The Azerbaijani was trained as a concert pianist, but at the Rotterdam conservatory she was touched by jazz and developed as a bandleader. Her impressionistic music is highly appreciated in the United States. In her current band she plays with American stars such as Wayne Escoffery and Rudy Royston.

Suite of Africa

For her recent album Suite for Africa , Amina Figarova drew inspiration from a chance encounter. The seed was sown in South Africa, where she met many young musicians at masterclasses. But the composition only really blossomed after she met the Matsiko World Orphan Choir on a plane, a choir of orphans from war-torn Liberia. The choir also sings on the album.
