Chimaera
The Bimhuis is honoured to be the first stage in the world to welcome the entire seven-piece ensemble Chimaera, famous for the album of the same name full of atmospheric, constantly changing improvisations. Pianist Sylvie Courvoisier leads the European-American formation. Notable names include Wadada Leo Smith, a master trumpeter from the Chicago avant-garde, and Christian Fennesz, the influential sound artist on guitar and electronics from Vienna.

Musicians
With her compositions, Sylvie Courvoisier laid the foundation for the wonderful, meditative album on the one hand and constantly changing timbre and texture on the other. An important source of inspiration was the art of Odilon Redon, who depicted a colourful, hallucinatory dream world with his Symbolist paintings and wanted to give shape to intangible, invisible phenomena.
For this international premiere, the ensemble also consists of Nate Wooley on trumpet, Drew Gress on double bass, Kenny Wollesen on vibraphone and percussion and Nasheet Waits on drums. This concert is a collaboration with the North Sea Jazz Festival.
'Some pianists approach their instrument as if it were a cathedral… for Sylvie Courvoisier, it's a playground' (Kevin Whitehead, NPR).
